Summer is coming our way pretty quickly and honestly, I’m excited! I’ve never been much of a hot weather person, but I love the vibes that come along with warmer temperatures. There’s a sense of lightness, freedom, and relaxation. It’s just an incredibly peaceful time of year and I love it. But, along with all that greatness comes super hot weather, which is basically my arch nemesis. To beat the heat, and some pesky inflammation, I decided to make a new drink recipe: Iced Golden Milk Latte! iced golden milk latte

What’s Inside the Iced Golden Milk Latte?

If you’ve never heard of golden milk, you’re probably thinking: what makes an Iced Golden Milk Latte special? Well for starters, this elixir s a gorgeous golden color (hence the name). This color comes from the turmeric, which is known to have anti-inflammatory properties. The golden spice has a warming, slightly savory flavor. It pairs incredibly well with other warming spices such as ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom. A little honey balances out the naturally savory, slightly bitter flavor of turmeric. Local honey also has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy benefits.

If you have tried golden milk, you’re probably thinking, “What makes THIS recipe so special?” Well, in addition to the unique blend of spices, I chose to add a couple extra superfoods. I included he shou wu and collagen in this recipe as “optional” ingredients for a few reasons. I absolutely LOVE using these supplements in my drinks, and do every morning. He shou wu is an herb used for centuries to promote beauty and vitality. And I need all of the vitality I can get these days! Collagen is a wonderful supplement to add to basically any drink, such as my adaptogenic hot chocolate. It provides protein, as well as supports hair, skin, and gut health. There are a lot of brands out there (and a lot of them are super expensive) but I use Neocell and love it (see below for link)! iced golden milk latte

You’ll also notice that there’s black pepper in this recipe. This is kind of a surprising ingredient for a warming, slightly sweet iced drink, but I promise it has a purpose. The body cannot absorb curcumin, one of the active compounds in turmeric, without the help of black pepper. You don’t need much, so just a dash or two will do. But you want to include a little black pepper to make sure you can absorb as many health benefits as possible!

Potential Health Benefits

Many people (including myself) often utilize turmeric to help reduce inflammation and joint pain. I try to consume at least a little turmeric every day to help curb the symptoms of my inflammatory chronic illnesses. It also aids in digestion, along with ginger. This combination is great for when you’re struggling with indigestion or an upset stomach. Additionally, turmeric may help reduce your chance of a heart attack. Other potential health benefits of turmeric include helping delay the onset of diabetes, and supporting brain health. There are also studies showing turmeric may be helpful in fighting cancer. I know these are big claims, but there are multiple studies out there on this powerful herb, and I highly recommend doing a little research for yourself. This article is a great jumping-off point. iced golden milk latte

My Secret Weapon

A couple of months ago, I was asked to review the Capresso Froth MAX* milk frother (link below) and happily obliged. Before receiving this gadget, I had been heating my nut milk on the stove, then pouring in in the blender with all of my ingredients to make a well-combined, frothy drink every morning. That takes a bit of time and makes a lot more dishes than I’d like to do. Plus I cut myself on my blender blade multiple times. Not so fun. But this tool actually heats AND blends your drinks if you choose to have a hot drink. And I think that’s pretty neat.  When I first tried the Froth MAX, I wasn’t quite sure how to best utilize the machine. I had to readjust some ratios on my usual drinks, but once I got it, it was perfect. I’ve now been making frothy, well-blended superfood drinks nearly every morning in this thing. I’m actually kind of obsessed. Capresso Froth MAX Iced Golden Milk Latte

Not only does this tool make hot and warm frothy drinks, but it froths cold milks too! With this setting, I knew I had to make a fun iced drink for you guys to enjoy this summer. So I chose to develop this Iced Golden Milk Latte recipe! While you can definitely make this using a blender, I will be making this drink all summer in my Capresso Froth MAX. However you craft this anti-inflammatory, heat-beating Iced Golden Milk Latte, I hope you enjoy! iced golden milk latte

*NOTE: While I was not paid for writing this post. I was kindly given the Froth MAX by Capresso to try and review. As I have used this product nearly every day since receiving it a few weeks ago, I am more than happy to share this review with my readers. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me!
